2016 Malbec

Malbec

SILVER Medal ~ 2020 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition

Vineyard and Winemaking

Our 2016 Malbec comes from the bucolic Shanya Vista Vineyard near the town of Sonoma. Hand harvested in late September and destemmed directly to open top bins. After several days of a natural or native fermentation we added a strain of yeast from Bordeaux.  After 3 ½ weeks we pressed the wine directly to barrels, 25% new French Oak. 3 years later we bottled the wine unfined and unfiltered. Bottled a limited 100 cases.

Tasting Notes

Roasted plum and aromas of blackberry cobbler open up the nose, followed by notes of mocha, dark chocolate, and dark soy laced cherry. Rich round tannins along with notes of blackberry, cherry, cream soda, and caramel open the palate, followed by hints of vanilla, cassis, and dark chocolate espresso beans. Our 2016 Malbec is tasting superb now, and with the hefty tannins will age nicely over the coming 8 to 12 years.
